Suspect in June Armed Robbery of Central City Parking Employees Arrested

In June of this year, two Central City Parking employees were robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a blue bandana over his face according to one of the alleged victims. The incident occurred in the 300 block of North Rose in Kalamazoo; the suspect was said to have pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at one employee as he demanded a bag containing the deposit for that evening.

Police released video and surveillance photos shortly thereafter, and described the alleged suspect as a black man of medium build around 6 feet tall. He was seen in surveillance photos wearing pants and a white t-shirt. According to police, the suspect fled with an unknown amount of cash as he headed north on Kalamazoo Avenue from the parking ramp.

On October 3rd, police arrested 31-year-old Juyan Oneil Heard in connection with the armed robbery. Heard was also charged with two counts of felony use of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Having had previous convictions for drug possession, carrying a concealed weapon and home invasion, Heard had been paroled in April from a Michigan prison and had recently been put back in prison due to a parole violation according to news reports.

Heard’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for October 11 in Kalamazoo County District Court.
